map – a drawing of a place
cartographer – a map maker
compass rose – shows direction on a map
geography – the study of the land
continent – one of the 7 very large bodies of land in the world
ocean – a very large body of salt water
river – a long body of water that flows across the land
lake – a body of water with land all around it
bay – water surrounded by land on 3 sides
plains – area of flat land
mountain – the highest kind of land
hill – land that is higher than the land around it, but lower than a mountain
valley – low land between hills or mountains
peninsula – land hat has water on 3 sides
title – tells the reader what the map is portraying
island - land that is surrounded by water
map key/legend - is the part of a map that tells what symbols stand for.
